First District Councilman and Council President Scott Peters said he's running in the city attorney's race because he's the most qualified person for the position and because he has a demonstrated record of tackling hard problems and finding solutions for them.

"I'm the only candidate with significant experience as an attorney trying cases and managing lawyers, who also has experience in the city as a councilman and as the first Council president," said Peters. "I've been in a position to see how the city works, and, when it doesn't work, I know how to fix it."

San Diego - The Mission Times Courier has joined a growing list of endorsers for Scott Peters for City Attorney, reporting that "Without a doubt, the person best qualified to replace the incumbent...is City Council President Scott Peters."

The paper wrote: "The Mission Times Courier asks you to join the San Diego Firefighters Association, the League of Conservation Voters, State Senators Christine Kehoe and Dede Alpert, and a growing coalition of teachers, environmentalists, business and community leaders and voters throughout San Diego in support of Scott Peters."

Scott has won the support of a board coalition of environmentalists, small business leaders and educators. San Diego Education Association President Camille Zombro endorsed San Diego City Council President Scott Peters for city attorney earlier in the month, calling Scott a "leader who fights to do the right thing and for the right causes."

San Diego - Standard & Poor's lifted its suspension of the city of San Diego's credit rating after a four-year suspension. 

The rating agency said San Diego's fiscal outlook is buoyed by recent management improvements; a diverse regional economy; strong wealth and income indicators; good reserve levels and a moderate overall debt burden.
